Technology I Would Like to Try Within the Classroom

In reviewing the various types of technology available to teachers within the classroom, I found it difficult to choose just one! After narrowing down my options, I chose to discuss the application "Poll Everywhere", a text messaging/type to respond polling app that gives data in real time. While this type of technology is exciting for students and teachers and brings something new to the table, the Acceptable Use Policy in many school districts would need to be reviewed. The school district in which I work has an AUP that allows students to use devices that the school has provided for instruction (iPads) in the upper grades (6th-12th grade). The district has outlined what is acceptable behavior on the devices and what will not be tolerated. If the AUP is violated, the device is taken from the student and they must use a traditional textbook and submit homework through classroom computers or from home. The "Poll Everywhere" app would be of great use in the upper grades in the district in which I work. For younger students, this would be a bit more difficult to accomplish due to not having constant access to devices. A bring your own device policy could be instituted for these students if the teacher saw the need for this type of application within the classroom.
